Tiger parenting: What it is?

Tiger parenting : Tough Love

The term Tiger parenting came into being when Amy Chua published the book ” Battle hymn of the Tiger mother” in 2011based on her own parenting experience. So what exactly is meant by Tiger parenting? It is one kind of parenting among Different parenting styles. Amy while bringing up her two daughters, made discipline the focus of parenting. Watching TV or playing games on computers were forbidden. This was the rule of the house and Amy also followed the same to set an example. This helped her children to be disciplined and excel in studies and music. From the point of view of studying what kind of parenting style this is; Tiger parenting is just a new term for Authoritative parenting. Rules are set and a reward system is in place for being disciplined. Children who are parented in this style tend to develop their own decision system and are also tend to be more successful in their life. The setting of limits is really necessary for instilling discipline in the child. But researchers do not recommend this parenting style. They feel that it is limiting the freedom of children and taking away childhood from them. What do you think? Yoga can be a great way to instil discipline in the children. Parents should undertake the 200-hour yoga teacher training to know how it can be used to refine life.

Tips for dating a single parent dad

Dating a single parent dad

If you’re a single dad because of separation, divorce or death of your partner, you can also raise healthy children. As a single parent, your role is critical to your child’s development, so dating a single parent dad might require the partner taking second place. While there are many tips for dating a single dad, one of the most important would be to learn not to try and be number one in his life. Single parents know that they have to be both mom and dad so that the offspring can be confident with personal and professional achievements. A demanding partner isn’t going to cut it, and dating a single parent dad isn’t going to be easy for the person who wasn’t quite looking for a date who had kids. If you’re looking for carefree, child-free dates, you need to bear in mind that a single parent dad can’t be carefree as he needs to be constantly making provisions for this child and available to them at all times. Makes you think if you are ready for that kind of commitment and understanding?

Etching out some alone time for single parents

Alone time for single parents

When you’re a single father, it can seem impossible to get some time just for yourself. Even if we all love our children very much, it can sometimes be a real struggle. A full-time job, a household to look after and all the other necessary chores of life can be overwhelming. We want to spend as much time as possible with our kids, but single parents sometimes have to get some time alone, for the sake of their own sanity. So, is it a matter of Choosing between fun and parenting? With a few lifestyle changes, you don’t have to do that. If you don’t have any family members or friends nearby that can help you by babysitting over the weekend or a night here and there, maybe you can find a network of single parents. Join a Facebook group or a local organisation with other people in your situation. Together, you can meet up, look after each other’s kids now and again or simply arrange kid-friendly meet-ups. You can also encourage your child to be active in some weekend activity, such as dancing, horse riding, sports playing or maybe the Scouts? It develops the skills of your child, allows them to get some more friends and gives you some much needed alone time.

Positive parenting tips

Positive parenting is the best way to raise a child

Did you know that you posses an unbelievable power to make your kid’s life joyful or miserable, depending on your own behavior and mood? Basically, you can either torture or inspire your child. Positive parenting has been proven to be a much better way of raising a happy, intelligent, curious, and healthy child than strict parenting. What is the difference between strict and positive parenting? If you use violence to control your children and humiliate them, your parenting is strict. If you force your kids to do something they don’t like, there is a great possibility that your parenting will create angry, violent, and unhappy kids. On the other hand, parents who motivate, support, and love their children are on the right path to raise confident, responsible, and happier kids. Do you prefer strict or peaceful parenting? If the previous article hasn’t convinced you that positive parenting is better for your child, there are a lot of inspiring quotes that surely will.

Learning to give up helicopter parenting

A few days ago, following a huge fight, I was rather tempted to buy something rather expensive for my child. After all, thanks to Ferratum, I am in a financially secure place right now, and I can purchase something for my children, especially if they demand something of me, right? No, not right, I am budgeting and the loan was to assist with that not unnecessary gifts.

As a parent, we believe it is our duty to make sure that our children get the best of both worlds. We want to make sure they have everything, even if it is better for them to not have some things (maybe it is too expensive, and they don’t need it; maybe we know they will lose interest in it anyways). We want to protect them from being hurt, and we want to stop them from making mistakes. Many a times, we take their problems into our own hands, so that we can solve things for them. All these are characteristics of helicopter parenting.

Damages of Helicopter Parenting

Helicopter parents are called that because they tend to hover over their children’s lives too much. It has been proven, again and again, that this mode of parenting can be extremely harmful for it would prevent children from developing their own personality. Because the parents take care of all the small and big problems, the children don’t develop their own problem solving skills, and will not have the internal motivation to achieve things for themselves. Kids of helicopter parents also have greater egos, and a bigger sense of entitlement, because they believe that the rest of the world will behave just like their parents. However, they will face reality, and when they do that, they will become anxious and depressed (studies have shown that these children tend to be more prone to anxiety and depression).

This is something all parents should keep in mind the next time our child does something wrong, or makes a huge mistake. We cannot correct it for them. What we can do is stand by their side, and support them, when they deal with their problems and not just buy them something to ease their pain and your conscience.

Cooking for Two

One of the most difficult transitions I am afraid to say was having to come up with her school lunch each day, make a quick breakfast that wasn’t too unhealthy, as well as make time to prepare dinners as often as I can with my daughter.

Time management becomes the biggest thing in our life when suddenly you shift to this strange new world, where selflessness is the ethos of your existence.

Yes, I always loved my daughter, we spent more time than most dads probably do… but there is nothing to prepare you for taking on the role of primary caretaker, cook, house cleaner, and to keep your job going  to support you both.

Practical Parenting is a wonderful Australian resource to help you find fun dishes to create on nights when you aren not in a rush. One of my daughter’s absolute favorites is a dish called  Creamy chicken bolognese with pasta stars

This dish from Louise Fulton Keats is an awesome way  to show your little girl how to appreciate  fun new textures by mixing in  pasta stars through a a creamy homemade  sauce.

And if you get in a bit of a pinch, I look for local sites with Australian flare and kid friendly recipes.  One of my favorites is Kidspot! You’ll find a wonderful set of selections here!

Christmas is coming up soon, so prepare to do something fun with you kid as our goal this season is to make a gingerbread house. Remember, more importantly than the items you make are the memories you create.

Until next time..

A Brave New World

My hope for writing this blog is to be able to reach a few dads like me out there, that felt helpless and hopeless and certainly the experience was like hiking in the outback without a compass or a map. Scary…

I found little information in the beginning, which inspired this blog.   Family and friends were there to help in spades, but my little girl was a daddy’s girl and she in the moments where I felt weak, reminded me that we can do it.

With that said, every good article you will find will suggest one primary thing: Don’t Go it Alone Every daughter needs a female role model in her life and it’s important to find one you trust. This can be a friend, an aunt, someone from your church, or even a swim coach. It’s not as important where they come from, it’s important the mentor is there to help ease that transition and be there for the times us dad’s just can’t know all the answers. (pre-teen years especially)

Dad and Daughter Relationships are Special

Father and Daughters , daddy's girl. The hands of your child holds all of you in them

Also the relationship of father to any child is important in setting the tone for all future relationships. Especially with daughter. According to this recent article, and all psychological data supports, what aspects they see in dad are what they look for or expect in their future men.

So aim to be gentle, kind, loving, and authentic.  They will assume they can handle whatever they have lived through, this is we have such a vested interest in our children’s lives.

As a single dad raising a daughter alone, that feeling is especially pronounced. So far so good, and I hope to keep growing and learning from the processes we go through together, and the lessons she teaches me through her beautiful young perspective.
